The dismissal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare has sparked considerable debate, with many offering their insights into the situation.

Ghanaian broadcaster Afia Pokua, known as Vim Lady, has joined the conversation, sharing her perspective on the matter during her live show, Gyaso Gyaso.

According to Vim Lady, Dampare could have avoided the turmoil surrounding his departure by resigning shortly after the 2024 presidential election, once it became clear that the incoming administration under John Dramani Mahama would struggle to work with him due to his associations with the previous government.

In addition to discussing Dampare’s resignation, Vim Lady raised questions about the sudden progress in the investigation into the murder of journalist Ahmed Suale following the appointment of a new IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

She expressed surprise at how the case, which had stalled for years, suddenly saw movement with the arrest of a new suspect, suggesting that the police may have held onto critical information while Dampare was still in charge.

Vim Lady also criticized Dampare’s leadership style, particularly his decision to centralize power within the police force, which she argued weakened the decentralized structure of the service and led to internal problems.
