In accordance with the power conferred on the Minister responsible for Local Government by subsection (1) of section 3 of the Local Governance Act, 2016(Act 936), a new district has been created.
Upon consultation with the traditional rulers and the President of the [ads1]Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, the Berekum Municipality has been divided into Berekum East Municipal and Berekum West District.
The President who was a flag bearer during the 2016 elections promised the people of Berekum and its environs that if they massively vote for him and become the President of the Republic of Ghana, he would create a new district for them, and as a man of his words, he has done it.
It is on this that the MP for Berekum West Hon KWAKU Agyenim Boateng (Agoogo) called on the traditional rulers and stakeholders of this new District created at the Berekum Municipal Assembly Hall on Sunday 4th March 2018 to tell them that everything is set and ready to inaugurated soon.
Speaking on this he said the newly created Berekum West District is set to inaugurate on the 17/3/18 at Jinijini as everything required of a district is already in place.
As of reasons behind the creation of the district the lawmaker said it was done to speed up development as the President has the development of Ghana at heart.
