A civil society organization, Governance Watch Ghana is asking the Minister of Health to as a matter of urgency update the public on the implications of taking the first jab of the Covid-19 vaccines without the second dose after three months.
The organization in a press statement is worried that sections of the public has taken the first jab of the AstraZeneca but has not yet take the second dose at the time that government says its making efforts to procure Johnson & Johnson brand which requires only one dose.
“From the Health Ministry’s recent update spearheaded by the Minister, Hon. Kwaku Agyemang Manu, the government is making arrangements to secure vaccines of the Jonhson & Johnson brand. These vaccines are single-dosed vaccines which means every individual is expected to take just a single vaccine unlike the earlier ones that were to be administered twice.” – the statement said
“What is missing, and which the government seems to be losing sight over, is that, a large number of the population who took their first jabs are without any confirmation of when the second dose would be administered.” – Governance Watch added
In March this year government received about 200,000 doses from the Covax Vaccine programme but unfortunately government is yet to procure more vaccines to provide the second jab to some of those who took the first doses.
