“So far, about 90 percent of the beneficiaries are family members of the President and his appointees – some who are already employed” – he alleges

The senior staffer who is also one of the special advisers to President [ads1]Akufo-Addo on social intervention programmes disclosed this to close confidant after the launching of the Nation Builders Corps initiative about a week ago.

According to him, NABCO will surely not escape from the net of these corrupt government officials adding that it is yet another avenue for people in government loot the state.

The source said the government is weak in the monitoring of the implementation of these programmes creating avenues for some officials to engage in corrupt practices.

He listed the corrupt practices as shortchanging, racketeering, harassment, nepotism as well as exploitation of the vulnerable.

The source said some officials at the presidency allegedly engaged the BNI as well as EOCO for monitoring and these security agencies they identified six challenges relating to corrupt practices by some state officials.

He told Awake News that there are huge challenges with the school feeding programme and other social intervention programmes prompting the government to ask a private company to start screening the cooks, train them and also strengthen the monitoring and evaluation because they keep seeing or hearing stories of negative happenings in the programme.

He said the bane of some of the intervention programmes has been nepotism and a great deal of corruption.

For him, so much corruption exists that the intervention programmes do not make sense anymore. He said unless the government takes a better interest and moves to curb the corrupt practices, the state will continue to lose millions of cedis annually through the corrupt activities of those corrupt government officials.

He also alleged that some of the party footsoldiers who benefited from the various programmes are still working at other places but still being paid by the agencies.

According to him, some party footsoldiers who are not qualified to be employed under NaBCo have already been recruited. He lamented this is going to affect the general recruitment exercise.

He further alleged that the security agencies investigating these malpractices are facing serious challenges because of the alleged involvement of some top most powerful persons at the presidency and some NPP executives.
