This brings the total spread of the virus within local communities in the country to 77% from the previous 70 percent of confirmed cases between March and April that had no travel history.

The gap for travellers has reduced and stands at 23% following the directive of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on the closedown of the country’s borders as part of the measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The rise allays the fears of some health experts who expressed concerns of a likely community spread of the virus. But government urged for more calm as they embarked on an enhanced contact tracing exercise to curb the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, the Health Service announced a surge in confirmed cases from 641 to 834 and one more demise making a total of 9 deaths in the country.

Data available on the GHS’ website as at April 18, 2020, however, indicated 99 recoveries, 234 are responding “well” to treatment while four infected persons are in critical conditions.
