According to the Alavanyo Youth Association in a statement copied Awake News, “as a law abiding citizens and wanting to prove more to the world that we are innocent, we DARE DCOP FRANCIS DOKU to come with all the powers and support of the state that he has as a police officer to Alavanyo – Dzogbedze and show the world the Arm manufacturing base and 70 AK-47s he is talking of”

“FAILURE to do this, we will seek advice from our lawyers and sue him for defamation” – the statement added

The statement further explained that “We have presented to the world what the police came to the area to do by sending the media and the whole world to the Police’s wee farm”

Background:

On Sunday, January 13, 2019, there was an incident at Alavanyo Dzogbadze leading to the death of 2 young men whiles 6 sustained a various degree of injury.

An eyewitness told Awake News at that about 11:30 am on Sunday morning the Police had come to the town to embark on an operation where they destroyed some wee farms. In the process the police got their AK7 rifle and two handcuffs missing.

Soon after, they returned to the town to report to the chief that their AK7 and two handcuffs are missing where the Chief, Torgbe Petekuatsi (V) assured them he will help find the missing items.

The eyewitness further stated that while the police were leaving the chief’s palace, the youth started “hooting” at the Joint Military-Police Taskforce (6 police officers and 3 military officers) and “all of a sudden the police started shooting”.

“the police killed two young men and injured about 8 eight people who are currently at the Margaret Maquat Catholic Hospital at Kpando”

This account was however refuted by the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Doku saying, his men were rather caught up in a crossfire with some unknown assailants while on an operation in the town upon wind that some persons were hoarding ammunition in the town of Dzogbadze.

The crossfire, which he said the youth had cut power supply to the town and started shooting forcing the Police officers to return fire resulting into the incident.

The Alavanyo Youth Association while calling for an independent investigation into the incident, maintain that there was never any crossfire.

As we wait patiently for the report from the committee tasked to investigate the matter today.

We wish to thank you all for the support and encouragement you have given us during the past trying week of ours and the chronicle of events that lead to the gruesome murder of our brothers in cold blood by the joint military and Police Forces, as if that is not much, they have lied trying to cover up.

With your support, we resisted being suppressed this time.

We have presented to the world what the police came to the area to do by sending the media and the whole world to the Police’s wee farm. We have also disputed the allegations of #DCOP_FRANCIS_DOKU of coming to do arm search in Alavanyo.

As a law abiding citizens and wanting to prove more to the world that we are innocent, we DARE DCOP FRANCIS DOKU to come with all the powers and support of the state that he has as a police officer to Alavanyo – Dzogbedze and show the world the Arm manufacturing base and 70 AK-47s he is talking of. FAILURE to do this, we will seek advice from our lawyers and sue him for defamation.

No one man’s greed, incompetence, ineptitude, selfishness, unprofessional and love for money should draw us back, we will continue to pursue justice for our brothers and perpetrators duly brought to book.
