A Ghanaian citizen, Daniel Kwame Ofosu-Appiah, has filed a formal petition with the General Legal Council (GLC), urging disciplinary action against former Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

Ofosu-Appiah accuses Dame of professional misconduct during the ongoing criminal trial of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and others. He bases his complaint on an audio recording, which was admitted in court, and a series of WhatsApp messages.

According to him, the evidence shows that Dame attempted to influence the testimony of Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the case.

The complaint, filed under Section 18 of the Legal Profession Act, 1960 (Act 32), claims Dame privately engaged with Jakpa, who was already legally represented. Ofosu-Appiah argues this violates the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct and Etiquette) Rules, 2020.

He cites breaches related to honesty, witness tampering, and interference with the administration of justice.

He is asking the GLC’s Disciplinary Committee to consider sanctions, which could include suspension or removal from the roll of lawyers. Ofosu-Appiah stressed that the matter is of urgent public interest and critical to maintaining trust in Ghana’s legal system.
