The Director General of Public Affairs of Ghana Police says the CID has set up a special office to deal with organised crime like kidnapping.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David Eklu said the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) will liaise with its sister security services to clamp down on the new phenomenon of organised crime in the country.
For example, he said one suspect is standing trial for faking kidnapping, after the suspect conceived with a couple of his friends to dupe the father, who, the suspect alleged, was mean to him.
ACP Eklu explained that the police were taking all measures vital to make the crime unattractive, despite the delay in rescuing the three kidnapee ladies in parts of the Western Region.
He said the police in the Region were working around the clock to get the kidnapper disclosed the whereabouts of the three victims.
ACP Eklu noted that the suspect had been inconsistent in his statements to the police, after his earlier pronouncement in court that he was aided by police personnel on duty to escape from lawful police custody.
In order to keep free-flow of communication between the police and families of the victims, ACP David Eklu said a female police personnel from the National headquarters had been stationed at the Takoradi Regional Command.
“The Command in the region is one of the best in the country and we are certain that it will bring finality to this unfortunate crime,” he said.
Whilst he cautioned children against the company of unknown people and being enticed with flashy gifts et al, ACP David Eklu advised parents to prioritise the security of their children.
