According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Cholera outbreak has hit the Ada enclave with 43 reported cases and two confirmed dead cases.
The Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Frank Bekoe who confirmed the figures indicated that the affected areas are Ada west and Ada East of the Greater Accra region.
Dr. Bekoe said “So we have 37 confirmed cases from Ada East, and then six confirmed cases in Ada West. For us, we are looking at mortalities. I think that since the outbreak started, we have had two mortalities. And what we are doing is that we are trying to make sure that we identify the cases quite early and identify the contacts and follow them up and that is what we have been doing in our circumstances.”
He explained that Cholera is commonly transmitted through the consumption of contaminated food and water.
Dr. Bekoe added that the authorities are closely monitoring and tracking the situation to limit the spread.
The health authorities has called on people in the communities to practice good hygiene and drink clean water.
