The people of Manso Watereso, a mining community in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, were left in shock after a Chinese national, identified as Yao Xian, was reportedly found in a pool of blood in a nearby bush.
The unfortunate incident, according to reports, occurred on Friday, August 30, 2024.
Eyewitnesses say Mr. Yao, 52, was last seen on his motorbike along the Watereso road around 11 a.m., a routine journey for the Chinese miner who had lived and worked in the community for several years.
Later that day, Mr. Yao’s body was found in a bush, with blood still oozing from a deep wound on his chest. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at St. Martin’s Catholic Hospital in Agroyesum.
A joint investigation by the police and community leaders led to the arrest of three suspects: Kwadwo Mensah, 32; Robert Agyei, 29; and Abdullah Mohammed, 45, who were said to be employees of the victim.
A pump-action gun with serial number ASAR 2883 2014 and seven rounds of live ammunition were found in the residence of Robert Agyei. Initially, Agyei claimed the gun had never been fired, but a police examination revealed otherwise.
The three suspects are being processed to appear in court in the near future.
