Chiefs, Muslim Clerics Snub Court Injunction To Install Another Ashalaja Zango Chief

It is rather unfortunate that some citizens will go further to disrespect the rule of law in the country with impunity thinking they are above the law due to their political affiliation .

There was a pendamonium last Saturday at Ashalaja in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region when some chiefs and Muslim Clerics installed another Zango Chief of Ashalaja despite an interlocutory and Ex-parte injunction secured to restrained the coronation.

The community witnessed a heavy police presence including the Divisional Commander of Weija at the coronation centre in Ashalaja.

The police however, upon reading the ex-parte and the interlocutory injunction to the organizers, some Chiefs around including some individuals made series of calls just to overturn the court order for the coronation to take place.

After the Police Commander spoke with an known person on phone, he explained to the organizers the consequences and actions of the court should they proceed with the said coronation.

The organizers according to sources claimed they have spoken with someone from above hence they are free to go on with the said coronation.

Some journalists who tried to interview the Assembly man of the area were threatened by the organizers and some hoodlums.

On Friday August 27, 2020, the Zango Chief of Ashalaja, Sarki Yusiff Tahiru secured an interlocutory ex-parte injunction restraining some Chiefs and elders of Ashalaja from installing another Zango Chief, which was scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2020.

“It is hereby ordered that, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Dedendants herein whether by themselves their against, servants or others however described are restrained from holding a coronation to prevent the 4th Defendant AHMED IBRAHIM as Ashalaja Zongo Chief as planned to be done on the 29th August, 2020” copy of the interlocutory injunction stated.
