Chelsea’s hopes of securing a Champions League place took another hit as they were held to a 2-2 draw by relegation-threatened Ipswich Town at Stamford Bridge. Despite a dominant start, the Blues conceded twice in the first half through Julio Enciso and Ben Johnson.

A quick response after the break saw Axel Tuanzebe turn the ball into his own net before Jadon Sancho came off the bench to fire in the equaliser with a fine finish.

The result lifts Chelsea into fifth place above Aston Villa on goal difference, but dropped points in such a tightly contested top-five race could prove costly.

The fight for Champions League qualification remains intense with Newcastle United and Manchester City still in strong contention and holding games in hand.

Sancho’s goal may give Chelsea something to reconsider amid ongoing discussions about his future at the club. Marc Cucurella also had a mixed outing, contributing to both Ipswich’s goals and Chelsea’s attacking efforts. Ipswich, still 14 points from safety, will be encouraged by their resilience and will take pride in having gone unbeaten against Chelsea this season.
