Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament (MP) for North Dayi, has called on Minority Leader and Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo Markin to use the ongoing parliamentary recess to reflect on his leadership style and “amend” his approach to handling parliamentary affairs.

In a sharp critique, Hon. Dafeamekpor questioned Afenyo Markin’s conduct as Minority Leader, urging him to reassess his performance since assuming the role in January.

“We believe that this recess will offer him the opportunity to review his performance between January and the end of March and see whether there will be opportunities for him to mend the way he handles matters on the floor,” Dafeamekpor stated on Channel One TV, in a program monitored by Awake News.

The Majority Chief Whip also reminded the minority leader that he is “not the first Minority Leader we’ve had in this country,” adding that his past conduct as Majority Leader had similarly drawn criticism. “We had cause to complain about his style as a Majority Leader, and now four months down the line, he’s found himself on the other side of the aisle,” Dafeamekpor noted.

The North Dayi lawmaker further accused Afenyo Markin of unnecessary theatrics, recalling his tendency to escalate issues publicly.

“You recall how as Majority Leader he was always holding press conferences even though he was in government. He will take matters to court and will dramatise, and with the slightest matter on the floor, they will walk out sometimes on their own business,” he said.

The remarks highlight growing tensions in Parliament, where the Minority, under Afenyo Markin’s leadership, has frequently clashed with the Majority over key legislative matters.
