It is understood that under the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo the prices of cement are skyrocketing. This caused Janet Akorli’s lamentation on the sad development whiles likening it to how the results of the 2020 election kept changing.

“Cement price is changing like Jean Mensa election results”.

It can be recollected, In 2009, a 50kg bag of cement was sold for GHC9.20p to GHC11.00 maximum in Ghana depending on the brand and the location one is buying the cement.

Fast forward to 2016, the Mahama-led administration handed over to president Nana Akufo Addo an economy in which a 50kg bag of cement was sold for GHC21.00 to GHC27.00 maximum in Ghana depending on the brand of cement and location.

Using GHC9.20p which was the highest than in 2009 and it increased to GHC27.00 in 2016, it shows that in the 8 years of the Mills-Mahama-led NDC government, the total increment in the price was GHC17.80p translating into GHC2.23p increase per year.

Now, analyzing only the first 4 years under the Akufo Addo-Bawumia led NPP government, it shows the same 50kg bag of cement at the highest was GHC27.00 in 2016. Now it is selling at GHC43.65p and GHC54.00 depending on the brand of cement and location.

Today, the increment in 4 years under the Nana Akufo Addo-Bawumia led administration, cement prices increased by GHC27.00 translating into GHC6.75 per year.

In conclusion, the analysis proofs the price of a bag of cement increased by GHC2.23p per year under the 8 years of the Mills-Mahama NDC government. While under the first 4 years of president Akufo Addo, the annual increase in the price of cement per bag is GHC6.75p.
