[dropcap]F[/dropcap]elix Addo Donkor, a retrenched worker of Ghana Water Company, has been granted bail by the Akropong Circuit Court in the Eastern Region presided over by her lordship Mrs Theresah Akosua Asem to reappear on 22nd May 2017 with a surety of Ghc 2,000 for water thievery from GWCL.
In an interview with Mr Kojo Daase, PRO GWCL Eastern Region, Donkor a 55 year old former worker of GWCL was spotted by a staff of the company (name withheld) who recides in the same vicinity with the [ads1]accused, Akwapim-Adukrom in the Eastern Region, connecting water from his house which service has been disconnected to a nearby building under construction on the 27th April 2017 around 4am. When Donkor was confronted by the GWCL staff , it resulted in a scuffle after which the case was reported to the Akropong police hence Donkor’s arrest.Charges of assult, damage to property, stealing and attempted to steal were brought against him(Donkor) during the court sitting.
GWCL is praying the court to retrieve an amount of Ghc 1,618.45 as water lost in revenue and other administrative charges from the accused.
Mr Daase further urged property owners and developers to contact the nearest GWCL office for new service connections to avoid illegal connections by self acclaimed plumbers else the law will deal with such persons accordingly.
