Joint Police-Military open fire; 2 dead at Alavanyo

A joint Police and Military unit have shot and killed two people on the street of Alavanyo – Dzogbedze with several others sustaining various degrees of injury.

According to an eyewitness, the Police were in Dzogbedze to arrest some young men but the youth prevented the police from taking the boys away saying there is no clear reason for their arrest.

An eyewitness reported that, upon the prevention of the police from arresting their youth, the Police left and came back with a re-enforcement team from the military stationed at Nkonya. The joint Police-Military then started to shoot indiscriminately into the crowd killing two people on the spot. One additional person is seriously injured and may survive. Several others have suffered various degrees of injuries.

The lifeless bodies are still on the street of Dzogbedze in a pool of blood whilst the Police and Military unit has left the scene.
