The Police CID has preferred four criminal charges against Samuel Ofosu Ampofo for his alleged distasteful utterances captured on a leaked audio.
The National Chairman of the umbrella party is to report Thursday after he was granted a self-cognisance bail with two sureties by the CID few hours ago.
He was charged for rioting, assault on a public officer and threat of harm. Joseph Ade Coker and Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC and NDC General Secretary respectively, stood in as the sureties for the suspect.
Mr Ampofo, in the company of seven lawyers, appeared at the Police CID headquarters at 8 am Monday but according to reports, his written a statement was taken at about 2 pm, after long hours of waiting.
The delay in releasing their National Chairman sparked agitation in the teeming supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress, who massed up at the frontage of the CID headquarters.
In order to control the tensed crowd should they run amok, the armed police personnel with crowd combating equipment were strategically positioned at the headquarters.
