This means the two single-sex male traditional halls, University Hall [ads1](Katanga) and Unity Hall (Continentals) are also to take in female students from this academic year. Africa Hall, the only single-sex female hall is also expected to be converted into a mixed hall.

Following a series of events between the two power-struggling halls, Katanga and Conti, the University has finally taken a decision to mix the halls as a measure to solve the age-old struggle but this was met with though resistance to current students and the alumni of both halls.

Alumni of University Hall, also known as Katangees, at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has warned that women may face a harsh academic environment if the all-male hall converted into a mixed one.

Greater Accra Press secretary of the University Hall Alumni, Raymond Laud, has said the women students who will be sent to the hall might not be safe even though the university plans to provide them security.
