President Akufo-Addo has directed the Inspector General of Police- IGP, Asante Apeatu to proceed on leave.
In a press statement signed by Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr. Eugene Arhin, the president has as the IGP to proceed on leave with immediate effect.
He has thus appointed the Deputy IGP, James Oppong-Boanuh as Acting IGP.
It is not yet clear why the President has decided to fire the Police Chief who has just two weeks to go on retirement but many are speculating the decision could be linked to the recent incidents within the Police Service particularly the Gregory Akofo’s case and the resignation of of the his (IGP) Executive secretary to contest parliament primaries on the ticket of the opposition NDC.
Some are also saying it could be an attempt to divert the public attention from the currently controversy surrounding the CID’s exoneration Mr. Bissue in the Anas’ “Galamsey Fraud” saga.
