The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) has reportedly added Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to their list of potential candidates for the national team job after parting ways with coach Dorival Junior.

Dorival’s future came into question following Brazil’s heavy 4-1 loss to Argentina earlier this week, and his dismissal was confirmed on Friday.

The CBF is now searching for a new manager to help the team qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti has long been a top target, and reports suggest that CBF officials had discussions with the Italian coach before deciding to part ways with Dorival. However, Ancelotti has firmly denied the rumors of talks.

According to UOL, while Ancelotti remains a key target, the CBF is also interested in Guardiola. This is not the first time Guardiola’s name has been linked with the Brazil job.

Back in November, reports suggested that Guardiola had “secret talks” about potentially taking charge of Brazil after the 2026 World Cup.

Guardiola has since signed a new contract with Manchester City until 2027 and has stated that he will not leave the club, even amid financial troubles. However, he has also expressed interest in coaching a national team in the future when his time with City comes to an end.

CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues emphasized that there has been no formal contact with any potential candidates yet, saying, “From now on, we will look for a replacement. What was said about there being contact did not go through CBF management.”
