Lead Convenor of pressure group, #FixTheCountry and social activist. Oliver Barker-Vormawor has urged legal practitioners to boycott the next Ghana Bar Association (GBA) conference.
His comment comes at a time when the GBA is being criticized over its noticeable silence over the controversies surrounding one of its high-profile members, Godfred Dame, Ghana’s Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
Some observers argue that the GBA is biased and only releases statements to condemn individuals or groups perceived to be aligned with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
For Barker-Vormawor, the association’s public image has sunk and needs to be redeemed.
In a social media post, the social activist suggests a few ways to compel the association’s leaders to live up to the mandates of the legal body.
“Boycott the upcoming Bar Conference.
“Withhold your dues by applying for solicitors licence manually. Your dues are your most direct form of power and control over them. Hold your power!
“Let’s have a group of 100 lawyers march to deliver a petition at the GBA Secretariat on Friday 21 Just June 2024,” he wrote.
