Dr. Boris Baidoo, CEO of Boris B Farms and National Vice-President of the Poultry Farmers Association, has praised former President John Dramani Mahama for his newly announced poultry revitalization initiative, dubbed “Nkoko Nkitinkiti.”
Speaking on the Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9FM in Kumasi, Dr. Baidoo described the initiative as a timely intervention that could restore confidence and sustainability in Ghana’s poultry industry.
The “Nkoko Nkitinkiti” initiative, part of Mahama’s broader Feed Ghana Programme, is designed to boost local poultry production by supporting 50 commercial farmers to rear 4 million birds—equivalent to 10,000 metric tons of chicken annually. The initiative also aims to cut down the $400 million spent each year on poultry imports.
Dr. Baidoo revealed that 55,000 households will also be registered under the program to rear 500 birds annually, contributing over 1 million additional birds to the national stock. The plan, he noted, is not just about food security but also seeks to empower women and improve household nutrition.
He called on Ghanaians to rally behind the initiative and avoid politicizing it, stating, “The survival of the poultry sector depends on all of us. This is the time to support and grow it.”
Dr. Baidoo pledged the full backing of poultry farmers nationwide and urged citizens to unite in ensuring the program’s success.
