Radio personality and activist Blakk Rasta has strongly criticized Ghana’s political leaders for failing to stop illegal mining, known locally as galamsey. Speaking on 3FM’s Urban Blend, he accused politicians of using galamsey as a tool to reward loyal followers during elections, only to ignore the devastating effects on the environment afterward.
Blakk Rasta said the destruction of forests and pollution of water bodies continues because leaders are more focused on empty promises than real solutions. He expressed frustration with repeated political statements lacking action and warned that the country is at serious risk.
He described the situation as a national crisis, with rising toxicity in water bodies and communities facing long-term health threats.
According to him, the government’s failure to act boldly shows weakness, asking why petty criminals are punished while galamsey operators continue with impunity.
Blakk Rasta called for urgent and tough enforcement to stop illegal mining before it destroys the country completely.
