Ghana will unveil the Blackstar Experience, a comprehensive programme for tourism, culture, and the creative arts, on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
The launch will take place at the Freedom and Justice Monument at Black Star Square in Accra.
Rex Owusu Marfo, popularly known as Rex Omar, the programme coordinator, announced the launch in a Facebook post.
The Blackstar Experience is the NDC’s flagship culture and tourism initiative. It aims to strengthen Ghanaian identity, attract investments, create jobs, and boost tourism through year-round events in music, art, film, fashion, and education.
President John Dramani Mahama described the programme as a key government initiative to position Ghana as the gateway to Africa for the global diaspora. It is also a major component of the NDC’s 2024 manifesto.
The programme will include curated cultural and artistic experiences. These will be developed with support from the private sector, diplomatic missions, and government agencies.
Key features include film festivals, concert party competitions, street carnivals, fashion shows, food fairs, and monthly domestic tourism events. All these will be part of the new Pan-African Month celebration.
President Mahama shared details of the Blackstar Experience during his State of the Nation Address in Parliament on February 27, 2025.
