Information and Technology teacher at the Nkwanta Community Senior High Technical, Mr. Bernard Joachim Potakey has been adjudged together with other prominent personalities as winners of the Education Category of the 2018 Community Heroes Award.

Mr. Potakey will be horned on September 20, 2018 at the University of Professional Studies in Accra by the Africa Centre for Peace Building and Awake Africa Magazine for his extraordinary efforts in promoting [ads1]information technology education in the Northern part of the Volta Region of Ghana.

Mr. Potakey has shouldered himself with educationists, Prof. John Gatsi and Ms. Gill Norris for the Education category of the award.

Brief About Mr. Potakey:

Mr. Potakey is currently the Head of IT Unit at Nkwanta Community Senior High Technical School. He was the Head of ICT Unit at Dambai College of Education from January 2012 to August 2015. He was also in charge of ICT at Krachi Senior High School in the Krachi West District from October 2009 to August 2011 where he also taught Management in Living as a subject over there.

Whiles at the Dambai College of Education, he was a member of the Admission Committee, Quality Assurance Committee, and the Electoral Commission. He was also the Tutor in Charge of Entertainment from 2013-2015.

Mr. Potakey also became a part-time tutor and an assistant examiner in Microsoft Applications and Introduction to ICT respectively for University of Education, Winneba, IEDE at the Danbai study centre from September 2012 – August 2015.

At the NKWANSTECH, Bernard lobbied iLEAD Ghana Foundation for secondhand clothes, food items, Jerseys, educational materials and folders for the school. He donated three sets of Avenue bench to the school; lobbied the Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT to establish it’s ‘’GIRLS CAN CODE’’ project at Kyabobo Girls School at Nkwanta.

He periodically sends female students to Ghana India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT and secured a pride Website for the without any cost incurred to the School.

Mr. Potakey holds Master of Information Technology (MIT) certificate from Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) in collaboration with Open University of Malaysia (OUM), he holds Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from Valley View University, Accra Ghana, Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Higher Diploma and Diploma respectively in Sales and Marketing from the London Centre of Marketing, UK with University College of Management Studies (UCOMS)– Accra Campus being the study centre. Over there, he also read professional marketing in CIM-UK.

Mr Potakey again holds International Computer Driving Licence Certificate (ICDL) from the Ghana India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE), Accra. He is also a Certified Microsoft Educator.

He is a member of the Information Technology Association of Ghana (ITAG), Global Association of IT Professionals (GAITPRO), CIM-Uk, Internet Governance Forum Ghana (IGF), London Centre of Marketing, UK and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT).

He is also a proud member of the Noble Order of Knights and Ladies of Marshall and an Ambassador for Youths for Human Rights Africa (YoHRA). He is an old student of Anlo Senior High School, Anloga.
