The Ashanti Caucus of NPP Members of Parliament has issued a press release to set the records straight on the recent Regional Caucus election.

The election, which was conducted on February 24, 2025, was marred by allegations of bias and favoritism, with some reports suggesting that the election was influenced by affiliations with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

However, the Ashanti Caucus has categorically denied these allegations, stating that the election was conducted in strict adherence to the caucus’ established democratic principles, ensuring fairness, transparency, and independence.

According to the caucus, there was no external influence, coercion, or favoritism in any form, and the outcome was solely a reflection of the independent choices of caucus members.
The caucus also addressed reports that Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie garnered only eight votes in the election, describing the claim as “entirely false and factually inaccurate.”
The actual vote count, according to the caucus, does not reflect this assertion, and any attempt to portray such figures is a deliberate effort to misinform the public.

Furthermore, the caucus denied reports that Dr Afriyie was present at the election, campaigned, or solicited for votes on the basis of his affiliation with Dr. Bawumia.

In reality, the caucus stated that, the Effiduase Asokore MP was not in attendance at the said meeting or election and had formally communicated to the Interim Management Committee ahead of the event that he was not interested in contesting for any leadership position.

The Ashanti Caucus has urged the public, party supporters, and all well-meaning stakeholders to disregard these misleading reports, as they do not reflect the truth of the matter.

The caucus remains committed to fostering unity and progress within the caucus and the broader New Patriotic Party.

The caucus also expressed its resolve to reject any attempt to distort the facts and create unnecessary controversy.
