General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia is asking the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to heave a sigh of relief the NDC could not attend its 26th National Delegates Conference at Koforidua in the Eastern Region at the weekend.
He intimates that it should be a blessing in disguise as he was prepared to expose the NPP and series of flaws under the current administration if the opportunity availed itself.
“Deep within the NPP, they are happy the NDC didn’t come because they were scared of how I was going to reveal their mistakes to the entire world.” He disclosed on Accra 100.5FM on Monday, 9 July 2018.
According to him, members of the NPP are happy no one from the umbrella family attended the event to give a goodwill message though, other opposition parties attended, reiterating the story would have been different from the narratives and what is known to be the norm.
The NDC failed to show up for the event despite indications they were duly invited by the Acting General Secretary of the NPP now Secretary-elect, John Boadu.
But Mr Asiedu Nketia in explaining the reasons for their inability to attend the event claimed they got the invitation letter quite late and also were celebrating a week’s demise of the former Vice President, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur.
“We have always been present at NPP functions over the years but this time the invitation didn’t come early,” he said.
“I had difficulty in accessing John Boadu on phone, he didn’t pick the calls. I also don’t have Freddie Blay’s contact and also the Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC is sick, so, he couldn’t attend.
Mr Asiedu Nketia disclosed that the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was duly informed about their inability to attend the event due to tangible reasons and was of the view he will communicate that to the party’s hierarchy
“So, when the Vice-President came to the funeral ceremony, I personally gave him the message that we can’t attend the event,” he said.
