The former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who is also Campaign Manager for Team Ken in Ashanti Region, Yaw Amankwa, has slammed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the worst performing veep in the political history of Ghana.
According to him, the country’s economic challenges and untold hardships are extremely rare under the supervision of the economic management team, which is led by the vice president.
He noted that Dr. Bawumia has woefully failed to deliver on all of his big campaign promises to turn the country’s economy around for the betterment of all.
He stated that the current inflation rate, cedi-to-dollar rate, and high taxes, among other issues that Dr. Bawumia has failed to manage, are sufficient requirements for him to be appointed.
In an interview on M’abatoɔ evening political show on Akoma FM with William Evans-Nkum and JB, the Ashanti Regional Campaign Team for Ken, Mr. Yaw Amankwa, revealed it will be very difficult for the NPP to win the 2024 general elections with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate.
He added that the rank and file of the party are fully aware that breaking the 8 is impossible with the candidature of Dr. Bawumia.
Mr. Amankwa expressed worry about the party’s internal waggling, which has given room for violence and infighting within the party.
He bemoaned the rate of violence, intimidation, and infighting that characterized the NPP’s internal party elections, adding that some elements within the NPP have hijacked the party and wanted to scheme the presidential slot for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He again expressed his dissatisfaction with the governing NPP and the current crop of leaders’ indiscipline, which is not in line with the party’s principles.
He stressed that Kennedy Agyapong is the only candidate who can break the 8-year jinx for the NPP come 2024.
Mr. Amankwah stated that Kennedy Agyapong, over the years, has shown his commitment to transform the economy, reduce youth unemployment, and bring hope to the citizenry through his humanitarian services.
“Bawumia becoming the party’s flagbearer would likely lead the NPP into opposition, he said, arguing that the party should endeavor to stop such a move or else the party would go to opposition.
He said that through determination and hard work, he will resist any attempts that might propel the NPP into perpetual opposition.
