Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, has strongly defended Youth Employment Agency (YEA) CEO Malik Basintale, who is under public scrutiny over questions surrounding his academic credentials.

A fake letter, allegedly from the University of Ghana, denying Basintale’s graduation, went viral last week. Critics have challenged his suitability for the YEA role, arguing he lacks the qualifications expected for someone addressing youth unemployment.

However, MP Tsekpo dismissed these concerns, focusing instead on Basintale’s results.

“Bawumia is a PhD holder, but Basintale has outperformed him and the NPP’s 8-year record in just 5 months,” he posted on social media on June 2, 2025, with the hashtag #ResultsNotCertificate.

Basintale, since his appointment, has prioritized creating jobs for graduates and unemployed youth. In a recent interview, he said:

“The biggest qualification is to create jobs for the Ghanaian people.”

He insisted that results, not academic titles, prove his competence.

Meanwhile, the University of Ghana has publicly denied issuing the viral letter. A statement from its Public Affairs Directorate on June 2 labeled the document a forgery and urged the public to disregard it.

Still, the central issue, whether Basintale holds a degree, remains unanswered for many critics.
