Ayawaso violence: NDC ‘runs away’ from Short Commission

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has maintained its disregard of the Emile Short Commission established to inquire into the criminal liabilities at the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

In this regard, the party says none of its members would show up at the Commission to release information to aid the former in its work.

Peter Boamah Otukonor, NDC Deputy General Secretary, described the Commission, which starts sitting tomorrow Thursday, February 14, 2019, as a charade, saying: “Bryan Acheampong, Minister of State in-charge of National Security, has openly said that he ordered the deployment of the hoodlums. What else does the President need to inquire? He and the Commission should get the Minister to answer for the violence.”

The NDC, he said, believes that, first and foremost, the constitution of the Commission is biased.

The party preferred an Independent Commission of Enquiry, he stressed.

“The setting up of this commission is already deficient with some constitutional requirements, therefore, its outcome will serve no cause to the victims and their families,” the NDC deputy scribe added.

The NDC argued that if the government did not set up an Independent Commission of Enquiry, the state ought to have allowed the criminal justice system to punish Bryan Acheampong, the IGP and armed mask men who visited the brutalities on the innocent civilians.
