The Avenor Traditional Council in the Akatsi South district of the Volta Region has launched an annual Inter-SHS debate competition, that will see participating schools argue out their points in the Ewe language.
The competition forms parts of activities that preceded the Vakpor Avenor festival come November 24th, 2018.
The initiative which is under the auspices of the Central Planning Committee for the Vakpor Avenor festival (Tutudoza), is aimed at promoting and encouraging the usage of the Ewe language among the Avenor youths.
According to the Traditional Council, there has been concerns about an outgrown displeasure and disinterest among youths towards the Ewe language (their mother tongue), in recent times. A phenomenon many describe as not only worrying but also disgraceful.
The first edition saw four schools within the district argue on salient topics that bother on the socio-economic development of the district in the Ewe language.
At the end, the Akatsi Senior High Technical School, emerged winners of the first ever edition and went home with a number of fascinating prizes.
The Traditional Council has therefore called on stakeholders across the board, to emulate such mechanisms that will promote the learning and usage of the language to a greater level.
This year’s competition was powered by Aimers Africa, supported by ReadWell Bookshop, Erados Elshadai Enterprise and Respect Barbering Centre.
