The boxing community in West Africa is mourning the tragic loss of Nigerian boxer Segun Olanrewaju, widely known by his ring name “Success,” following confirmation from an autopsy report that he died of cardiac arrest during a match in Ghana.
The incident occurred on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the iconic Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
The 40-year-old, who once held both the National and West African light-heavyweight titles, was in the ring facing Ghanaian contender John Mbanugu, nicknamed “Power,” when the tragedy struck.

According to a report, “An autopsy carried out on the remains of 40-year-old Nigerian boxer, Segun ‘Success’ Olanrewaju, who slumped during a boxing match at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, March 29, 2025, has shown that he died from cardiac arrest.”
Eyewitnesses say the boxer fell to the canvas without warning, prompting an immediate response from the referee who halted the fight and signaled for medical assistance.
Despite swift efforts by ringside medics, Olanrewaju could not be revived.
