According to STRANEK in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Nii Tettey Tetteh, the move will contribute significantly to the anti-corruption fight in the country.

“STRANEK would like to applaud the Auditor General’s activation of a section of the Audit Services Act through the issuance of debt certificates to retrieve misappropriated or misapplied state funds. This we believe is a strong commitment in the anti-corruption drive of the [ads1]service.” Mr. Tetteh said

He also added that “at a time when government is grappling with lower than projected revenue numbers, we believe that the retrospective effect of combing through the years to fish out misapplied or misappropriated state funds in the bellies of public officials will not only provide some respite for a government struggling to fulfill its campaign promises but will also inculcate a high level of accountability into the management of state resources.”

STRANEK would like to applaud the Auditor General’s activation of a section of the Audit Services Act through the issuance of debt certificates to retrieve misappropriated or misapplied state funds. This we believe is a strong commitment in the anti-corruption drive of the service.

At a time when government is grappling with lower than projected revenue numbers, we believe that the retrospective effect of combing through the years to fish out misapplied or misappropriated state funds in the bellies of public officials will not only provide some respite for a [ads1]government struggling to fulfill its campaign promises but will also inculcate a high level of accountability into the management of state resources.

We however urge the Auditor General to be steadfast in his commitment to retrieving state funds from corrupt public officials and not pander to the whims and caprices of parochial political interest. This phenomenon must not only deal with the past but must become a constant feature for all future audit reports.

As a think tank that supports anti-corruption activities, we will be monitoring the activities of the Auditor General and hope that this process will be fair, apolitical and in the national interest.

Even as we at STRANEK lauds and supports this initiative, we also encourage all Ghanaians to join in support so that this country can get rid of the canker of widespread corruption.

We are all involved in building our motherland Ghana.

Signed.
