The Auditor-General will submit an interim report on outstanding contractor claims in the coming days. This move will allow the government to start payments.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson shared this update during a meeting with Ecobank Group CEO Jeremy Awori. The government inherited GH¢67 billion in contractor arrears. It plans to clear these over a four-year period.
GH¢13 billion has been allocated in the 2025 Budget to settle verified claims. Dr. Forson stressed the government’s commitment to avoid piling up new arrears.
He also highlighted recent changes to the Public Financial Management Act. These reforms aim to ensure discipline and transparency in public procurement.
Ecobank was urged to deepen its support for Ghana’s recovery, especially in private sector growth and agriculture.
Jeremy Awori confirmed the bank’s interest in supporting the economy. He pledged to increase lending and boost collaboration with the government.
Energy and Green Transition Minister John Abdulai Jinapor also attended the meeting.
