Legal counsel for Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Samuel Atta Akyea, has raised concerns about the handling of his client and his wife, Angela Boateng, following their recent arrests.

Atta Akyea claims the authorities violated their legal rights, particularly by not allowing him to properly interrogate his clients during their detention.

The controversy stems from allegations made by Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine at a press conference on March 24, where he claimed Adu-Boahene was involved in diverting $7 million from a cyber defense contract into his personal account.

Adu-Boahene and his wife remain in detention at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). Atta Akyea criticized the circumstances surrounding their arrest, calling it unfair and a breach of legal protocol.

He stated that Adu-Boahene was detained on March 20, and his wife was arrested the next day when she voluntarily visited EOCO to inquire about her husband’s condition.

Atta Akyea further noted that when he attempted to speak with the detained couple, he was informed that he could only proceed with questioning if prosecutors were present, which he argued undermined lawyer-client confidentiality.

He also mentioned that his attempt to meet with EOCO superior officers was blocked, and during his wait, the Attorney-General held a press conference, revealing details of the case.

The Attorney-General, Dr. Ayine, revealed that Adu-Boahene’s arrest was linked to the alleged misappropriation of funds from a $7 million cyber defense contract intended to enhance Ghana’s cybersecurity infrastructure.

It’s claimed that Adu-Boahene diverted these funds for personal use and laundered them through real estate investments.
