At least five people have been confirmed dead with dozens injured in the Atomic Junction gas explosion that occurred on Saturday night in Accra.

According to the eyewitness who narrated his experience to Awake News at about 9.00pm last night, said…

….at about 7pm, they saw a gas tanker discharging gas at the station and about 15 minutes later they smiled a scent of gas and later heard a leakage sound….

Then we just heard shout from the gas filling station,…. run for your life, run for your life….

In fact there was a pandemonium here, then we all started running. The trotro drivers and all the cars started running…

My shop is just close to here. I saw the kebab seller also ruining with his things and even later came for his meat.

All of a sudden, the gas caught the fire from this direction [as he points his fingers] and started burning on the streets and then to the tanker so about few minutes…. boooom, the explosion…..

That is how the the incident started so many people escaped before the explosion….in not …. hmmmm

This morning the Awake News Team followed up to the accident scene to ascertain if there are any truth in what the eyewitness narrates yesterday night.

As shocking as we were, we discovered about three (3) Kebab selling joint very close to the gas filling station.

The question many will ask is where were the authority who should have made sure that no naked fire is made close to a gas filling station?
