Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has recently addressed and debunked circulating reports suggesting that he has authorized payments to contractor Kennedy Agyapong. In a statement made on February 23, 2025, Forson took to social media to clarify that no such payments have been made under the John Dramani Mahama-led administration since they took office.
Forson explained that since assuming his role as Finance Minister, the government has initiated a comprehensive and meticulous review of all contracts and payment requests. This process, according to Forson, aims to verify the legitimacy of all financial claims before any payments are approved.
He emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of public funds. Forson made it clear that only after completing this thorough review would any decisions be made regarding the approval of payments.
He further clarified that, contrary to rumors circulating in the media, no contractor—including Kennedy Agyapong—has received any payments from the government. Forson addressed these claims directly in a post shared via X, stating, “Friends, since I took office, no contractor—including Kennedy Agyapong—has been paid a single pesewa. We are currently conducting a comprehensive review of all contracts and payment requests to verify their legitimacy. Please disregard any claims suggesting that I have authorized payment to Kennedy Ohene Agyapong or any other contractor. Thank you!”
The clarification comes in response to reports that have suggested that some contractors, including those linked to opposition figures, are being paid by the government.
Forson’s response is intended to dispel these rumors and reassure the public that the government is thoroughly scrutinizing all financial transactions to ensure that taxpayer money is being spent appropriately and in line with legal and procedural guidelines.
In his tweet, Forson reinforced the message that the review process is crucial before any action can be taken regarding payments. He urged the public to disregard any misleading claims and reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency and financial accountability.
