Asunafo South: Military Patrol Team attacked by thugs, 3 wounded

Awake News can confirm that some uncountable number of thugs wielding cutlasses and other offensive weapons have attacked a joint Military Forestry Team at Sankore Abonwire Forest in Asunafo South District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

[ads1]The attack according to the Kukuom District Police Command occurred on Thursday evening around 5 pm has left three military officers wounded.

“Two military men WO2 Yaw Adjapong and Sgt. John Nartey sustained wounds on their hands whilst Cpl. Issac Djan sustained a serious cutlass wound at the back of his neck” – The District Police Command says

“They have since been treated at Goaso Municipal Hospital and discharged”- the statement added

Information reaching Awake News indicates that the attack has sent a shock wave to the home of the former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister and MP for Asunafo South Constituency, Hon. Eric Opoku who is currently in his constituency to celebrate the Eid Mubarak with his Muslim brothers and sister. Mr. Opoku has faced similar attached in the past few months.

In April this year, some armed men on one Sunday dawn attacked Mr Eric Opoku at his residence at Sankore. The attackers, believed to be sympathisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to the police, also attacked and injured three other persons, all members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in their various homes that same night.

KUKUOM DISTRICT. ASSAULT ON PUBLIC OFFICER AND CAUSING HARM. INFORMATION REACHING POLICE DISTRICT COMMAND/ KUKUOM INDICATES THAT TODAY 14/6/18, ABOUT 1700 HRS. AN UNCOUNTABLE NUMBER OF THUGS WIELDING CUTLASSES AND OTHER OFFENSIVE WEAPONS ATTACKED A COMBINED MILITARY FORESTRY TEAM AT SANKORE ABONWIRE FOREST NEAR MINTUMI/ ABUOM.

TWO MILITARY MEN WO2 YAW ADJAPONG AND SGT. JOHN NARTEY SUSTAINED WOUNDS ON THEIR HANDS WHILST CPL. ISSAC DJAN SUSTAINED A SERIOUS CUTLASS WOUND AT THE BACK OF HIS NECK.

THE FORESTRY DRIVER THEN IN CHARGE THE TEAM’S VEHICLE ALSO SUSTAINED A SERIOUS CUTLASS WOUND AT THE BACK OF HIS NECK.

THEY HAVE SINCE BEEN TREATED AT GOASO MUNICIPAL HOSPITAL AND DISCHARGED. OCCURRENCE BEING FOLLOWED FOR NECESSARY ACTION. ALL RELATED FACTS AND DEVELOPMENTS WILL BE COMMUNICATED. SITREP FOLLOWS. PATROLS CONTINUES, PLEASE.
