The Assembly member for Wuxor, Have, and Sremanu Electoral Area in the Akatsi South Constituency of the Volta Region, Hon. Japhet Festus Gbede has petitioned Arab countries to deny Bawumia any financial support until President Akufo-Addo signs the anti-LGBTQ bill into law.
Countries included in the petition are Tunisia, Morocco, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Palestine. The petition entreats the aforementioned countries ambassadors to challenge Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to get the president of Ghana to assent to the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
According to Mr. Festus Gbede, if President Akufo-Addo signs the bill into law, it will convince Ghanaians that Dr. Bawumia’s statement that he does not support LGBTQ+ activities is genuine and not a political gimmick.
“I humbly write to petition your highest office as the Assemblymember for Wuxor, Have, and Sremanu Electoral Area in the Akatsi South Constituency of the Volta Region over the Western country’s pressures on our country, Ghana under the aegis of the EU-ACP to join countries that legalize lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) relationship,” part of the petition read.
According to the petition, the conduct of the Vice president cum the 2024 flagbearer of the NPP is “playing as a paradoxical figure in the LGBTQ brouhaha.” Mr. Gbede then urged the Arab world to challenge Dr. Bawumia to publicly condemn the president for delaying the passage of the bill into law.
“The conduct of Dr. Bawumia, the 2024 flagbearer of the NPP who has also not been able to muster the courage to tell the president who is his immediate boss that the practice of the strange sex forms is totally at variance with Ghana’s culture and the holy and glorious Qur’an seems to be against the practices in Islam which Prophet Lut (peace be upon him) condemned homosexualism by saying, ‘Do you lustfully approach men instead of women? No, you are an ignorant people (Glorious Qur’an 27:56) should be critically watched by the Arab countries,” the petition said in parts.
The Wuxor, Have, and Sremanu Assembly member appealed to the Arab countries to immediately challenge the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to shun the LGBTQ+ accord as the act remains satanic, heartlessness, immoral, perilous, luciferous, and abominable and also against the order of nature and Allah.
