National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called for the removal of the entire Electoral Commission (EC) leadership, citing the party’s reset agenda.

In a recent interview on Radio Gold, Asiedu Nketia emphasized that the top-ranking officials of the EC should be replaced.

“I am the one who started the whole conversation about the removal of high-ranking officers at various state institutions, including the Auditor General, the Electoral Commissioner, among others,” Asiedu Nketia stated.

“The fact that the NDC won the 2024 election does not turn the EC Chair, Mrs Jean Mensa, into an angel. Left with me alone, she should be removed together with the entire leadership of the Electoral Commission,” he remarked.

Asiedu Nketia’s sentiments come as the EC continues to play a crucial role in Ghana’s governance, managing public elections and referendums.

The commission is comprised of esteemed individuals, including Chairperson Jean Mensa, a barrister-at-law with extensive experience in governance and democratic issues.

Her deputies, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Mr. Samuel Tettey, bring significant expertise in corporate services and electoral operations, respectively.

Other notable members of the EC include Reverend Akua Ofori-Boateng, a priest with impressive academic credentials, and Hajia Salima Ahmed Tijani, who heads the global remittances unit at ADB Bank PLC. The EC’s composition and functions are established under the 1992 constitution, with a clear mandate to oversee elections and maintain the integrity of Ghana’s democratic processes ¹.
