Kumasi Mar 05, GNA – The Ashanti West Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will spend a total of GHc 29,683,222.00 on various projects in 2025 to help improve system reliability and enhance operational efficiency.
Mr George Amoah, the Ashanti West Regional General Manager, who announced this, said the projects would include the creation of four new 11KV Feeders from Kumasi Asekyem Primary substation, Afari Primary substation, and Maase, as part of efforts to relieve some of the already existing feeders and improve power supply.
Speaking at a media engagement in Kumasi, he said residents at Kokoben, Trede, Heman, Darko, Ampatia, Twedie, Foase, Sapaase, Afari, Nkawie, Toase, Denase Ahenkro, Kodie, Mowire, and their surrounding areas, would benefit from the creation of the four new 11KV feeders’ project.
Additionally, he noted that the ECG envisioned injecting and upgrading 70 transformers in the Ashanti West Region to prevent low voltage and improve power supply to customers.
Mr Amoah said some of the transformers would be installed at Trede, Krobo market, Trabuom new site, Kromoase, Bebu, Mankranso, Bekwame, Agric Nzema, Ahodwo, and others.
He said the power supply would be extended to newly developed areas such as Pakyi No. One, Atwima Agogo, Sepaase, Abuakwa Canan and other areas.
Moreover, new smart prepaid meters under the Loss Reduction Project (LRP) would be introduced in the Suame, Abuakwa, Bibiani, and Offinso districts.
“This will ensure we have enough meters to serve our customers and even replace the faulty meters,” Mr Amoah explained.
He said the ECG would intensify the campaign against illegal connections by prosecuting customers who stole power and persons who engaged in the illegal sale of meters.
Mr Amoah said the ECG aimed to deliver excellent services to its 473,570 customers, comprising of 279,001 postpaid, 194,368 prepaid, and 201 SLT customers in the region.
