National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Director for Ahafo Ano North, Mr Francis Akakpo Elikplim has urged the Ghana Police Service to apprehend and prosecute Kingsley Nyarko. The Member of Parliament for Kwadaso was caught on camera dropping an envelope on a table for temporary Electoral Commission officials during the Ejisu by-election.

The footage has fueled accusations of monetary inducement by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to manipulate Electoral Commission officials. Many have described the action by Dr. Kingsley Nyarko as undemocratic.

Kingsley Nyarko has repeatedly denied the allegations, claiming the money was meant for lunch for the EC officials. He said he did not engage in any electoral misconduct. The Poverty Reduction Strategy Committee member also said he is ready to face law enforcement officers if invited.

In an interview with this portal, Mr Elikplim indicated that the MP’s actions constituted illegal behaviour and called for his immediate arrest and prosecution.

“Thank God one camera captured the MP giving a fat envelope to officials. It’s a crime and he must face the vigorous of the law.”

However, Mr. Akakpo Elikplim expressed worry that there have been no serious actions from the Police. He said this is a national concern and must get that seriousness from the Police. Mr. Elikplim urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to intervene promptly.

Also, Mr. Elikplim said the Electoral Commission did not properly handle the by-election. He alleged that the commission employed known NPP members as officials. According to him, EC officials were brought in from Kumawu, a known NPP stronghold, to oversee the process in Ejisu.

“The call for accountability and transparency in electoral processes remains at the forefront of public discourse as Ghanaians await developments in this unfolding controversy.”
