Armed robbers raided the IBM fuel station at Pakyi No. 2 in the Amansie West district of the Ashanti Region. The May 23, 2024, incident left the filling station’s staff traumatized.
Information gathered indicates that five fuel attendants and a security guard were tied up by the unknown assailants and made away with 1 million Ghana cedis.
According to the manager of the filling station, the armed men broke into the office, disconnected the CCTV and took the digital video recorder which aided them in doing the operation without being caught.
Speaking to this portal, the director of IBM fuel station, Mr Kwabena Tawia pleaded with the Ashanti Regional Police command to intensify their operations in the area to avert reoccurrence and protect the lives of individuals in the community from the hands of criminals.
He said the past few months have witnessed rampant harassment of residents and notably filling stations in the locality by thieves.
Recounting their harrowing experience, the fuel attendants said they passed through a life-threatening moment. They said the armed robbers threatened to kill them if they resisted the robbery.
They appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo Damapre, to deploy a police patrol team to the area to deter criminals from engaging in their activities.
“Lack of a police patrol team in the area has led to miscreants taking over nightlife in the area. If police patrol has intensified these criminal activities will be minimized for the community to enjoy its peace and tranquillity,” one of them complained.
