Inflation in Ghana continued its downward trend in April 2025, slowing to 21.2%, according to data released by the Ghana Statistical Service. This marks the fifth consecutive month of decline, supported by lower food and non-food inflation rates.

The drop in inflation was largely driven by declines in both food and non-food inflation compared to the same period last year, according to the Ghana Statistical Service.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, newly appointed Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, emphasized that this downward trend in inflation reflects improved price stability across key sectors.

He revealed that inflation for locally produced items fell from 24.0% in March to 22.7% in April, highlighting the growing impact of local economic activities and policies geared towards price control.

Dr. Iddrisu urged stakeholders and the government to take advantage of the current momentum to reinforce macroeconomic stability.

“Government must also work hard to sustain social intervention programmes such as LEAP, Capitation Grant, and the School Feeding Programme. These protect the real income of the poor and vulnerable,” he said.

He further stressed the need for accelerating the Agriculture for Transformation programme to reduce food price volatility, which remains a major driver of inflation.

The April inflation figures come at a time when the Ghanaian economy is undergoing various structural reforms. Experts suggest that sustained declines could lead to lower interest rates and improved investor confidence.

With inflation easing for five straight months, policymakers are optimistic about reaching the single-digit inflation target set for the medium term, although external shocks and local supply constraints still pose risks.

As Ghana heads into the second half of the year, the focus remains on policy consistency, food production, and maintaining fiscal discipline to ensure inflation continues its downward path.
