A group of teachers in the South, Central and North Tongu Districts of the Volta Region are calling on their Local GNAT Secretary, Mr. Julius Sebewu who also doubled as NPP’s Deputy Youth Organiser for Central Tongu Constituency to apologies to them and resign as their secretary.

[ads1]According to the Concerned Teachers of Tongu, in a statement copied Awake News, Mr. Julius Sebewu who was making his contribution on a political talk show radio programme in respect to the proposed licensing exam for teachers, the NPP Communication member intimated that there are “some teachers cannot even string sentences together …” .

Mr. Sebewu also stated that “many teachers only go to Colleges of Education as a last stop measure only to re-sit many exams because of their inherent deficiency in intelligence is untenable.”

He was also alleged to have suggested that “teachers who examines students are afraid of being examined for the fear of been caricatured by the very students they examine”

These comments, the concerned members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), found as denigrating and insult to the profession which he – Mr. Sebewu belonged prior to his political appointment.

The angry teachers did not spared him but questioned if the licensing regime being proposed by his government is only meant to expose those teachers that cannot write simple sentences. They also asked what he has done with the situation he identified since his appointment as the Local GNAT Secretary.

“Mr. GNAT Local Secretary chose to address an issue that affects the members of the organisation he oversees. Knowing that many of the teachers under his jurisdiction cannot write simple sentences as he has told the public to believe, may we ask what he has done about this as a GNAT Secretary to alleviate the predicament of his subjects? Does he think that the proposed license exam will only focus on “sentence stringing” and so “many teachers are afraid?”

CONCERNED TEACHERS OF TONGU

PRESS RELEASE: THURSDAY, AUGUST 17, 2017.

DEPUTY NPP YOUTH ORGANISER FOR CENTRAL TONGU AND GNAT SECRETARY FOR ADIDOME LOCAL – MR. JULIUS SEBEWU – INSULTS TEACHERS ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 17, 2017 ON DELA RADIO 105.7 FM IN ADIDOME

It has come to the attention of teachers in Tongu (North, South and Central Tongu) that Mr. Julius Sebewu, the Deputy Central Tongu Constituency Youth Organiser and a constituency communication team member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has descended on the intelligence of teachers when he was commenting on the proposed licensing policy being proposed by government as a representative of his party.

To put it as he did, Mr. Sebewu intimated among other things that as for the licensing exam, he is all for it, a stand which has never been disputed by any teacher albeit the form in which it is being proposed and the hidden strings that might possibly be attached to it. However, the nauseating comment from Mr. Sebewu, someone who has been practicing as a teacher for some time now, that he could confidently say that “some teachers cannot even string sentences together …” (at exactly 9:12 am on the Hododio Political Talk Show of Dela Radio); and that many teachers only go to Colleges of Education as a last stop measure only to re-sit many exams because of their inherent deficiency in intelligence is untenable. According to the tape, he also made the rather also gloomy statement that seems to suggest that teachers, who examines students are afraid of being examined for the fear of been caricatured by the very students they examine.

We, the Concerned Teachers of Tongu, found these comments by one of our members impertinent to our reliability, career and personal dignity as teachers. In fact these scandalous comments by Mr. Sebewu are palpably tantamount to indicting and irreparably injuring the teaching profession that he is a member of.

For the avoidance of doubt, Mr Julius Sebewu is the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Secretary for Adidome Local and teaches at the Dadoboe-Tsawla (Datsa) D.A. JHS. Prior to his present position, he had taught at Mafi-Kumase SHTS and MAfi-Kumase D.A. JHS. He must have surely known many teachers across the Adidome enclave over which he has jurisdiction as a GNAT Secretary that might have convinced him to make those pronouncements, comments which sharply disagreed with the official position of GNAT that he is a local executive of.

That notwithstanding, we are also surprised at the propriety of the forum Mr.

We found the comments of one of our leaders in the GNAT fraternity unacceptable and humbly ask him to apologise and resign from the position he is occupying. As an executive of the association, it is impugning why Mr. Julius Sebewu should not be defending the position that association takes but rather chose to mudslide the membership as ILLITERATES and unfit to teach the children of the good Ghana.

We hope Mr. Sebewu would not describe this released as those of teachers who could not “string sentences together.”

Long Live Teachers!

Long Live Ghana!!!
