Incontrovertible reports reaching The New Statesman reveal that the shocking news of the murder of Captain M.A. Mahama is linked to the fight against galamsey in the country.
It has been revealed that on the fateful morning of Monday the young captain went out for a jog near Diaso in the Western Region. Unbeknownst to him a mob of locals laid ambush on him because of his involvement as the Commander of the Anti-Galamsey force detached to the area. The people who lynched him, knew him in that capacity.
The Assembly man of the Diaso area who is reported to own a galamsey concession is reported to have been very unhappy with the presence of the force. As a result he is reported to have been involved in mobilizing the locals to protest against anyone who tries to stop them.
This lynching has all the marks of a deliberate act.
The report of this mob action has thrown the Ghanaian public into fury over the growing incidents of mob action in the country.
Recently a paramilitary group called the Delta Force which is allied to the ruling government of President Akufo Addo walked free from the criminal justice prosecution system following their violent storming of a sitting court and freeing their suspect comrades.
Members of the public are expressing concern that this latest act of violence which cost the life of a young promising soldier is one too many. Deafening calls are being made by the public to the government to take steps to ensure the security of citizens.
