Nana Baffour Sekyere Bamfo Poku I has appealed to philanthropists and indigenes with the wherewithal to put up a police post at Akyem Abodom.
Akyem Abodom has a population of about 6,000 and considering the increasing crime rate and lawlessness in the Kade Municipality suburb, Nana Poku I said it is important a security post is mounted in the area to save law-abiding citizens.
Nana Baffour Sekyere Bamfo Poku I made the appeal during a coronation ceremony held to outdoor him as the first son to ascend the Ankobia throne since the birth of the town.
Akyem Abodom has a tall register of its youth engaged in drug abuse, gambling and petty thievery and Nana Poku I observed that “the use of illicit drugs such as tramadol and marijuana among the youth is increasing by the day and this development, if not curbed, would affect the future of the youth.”
As these crime rates are on the ascendancy, inter-family conflicts and misunderstandings are also on the high, thus, affecting the development of Akyem Abodom.
The nearest police station is the Kade Municipal Police Command, which is nine miles away, and only a few with financial muscles are able to travel that distance to lodge complaints of suspected crime.
Another appeal Nana Poku I made was the rehabbing of the deplorable roads from Kade to Akyem Abodom township and nearby towns.
He said infrastructure improvement and the welfare of the people of Akyem Abodom were paramount among his visions for the area.
Based on this, he said he would institute a fund-raising plan towards the renovation of Akyem Abodom market with sheds and other commercial facilities and upgrade the area’s current CHIPS Compound into a modern health facility with accommodation facilities.
Present at the well-attended ceremony were members of the Akyem Abodom Traditional Council and chiefs of adjoining towns, the Municipal Chief Executive for Kade, Seth Antwi Boasiako, Member of Parliament for Kade, Kwabena Tinyase and Friends of Tema Group.
