Speaking at the APDO’s 30th anniversary celebration at Adeembra, a community near Donkokrom, Mr. Modok said the papers if disposed of in the toilet helps absorb the water in the manhole hence the practice of burning the [ads1]papers after anal cleansing is not the best.

According to him, “using tissue paper is one of the best method everybody must adopt but I am much worried to see people putting waste bin at the toilet where papers are being put in after anal cleansing and burn afterwards, a practice which we must put a stop to because cockroaches, house flies and others can contaminate our food with the feces, therefore, best thing is to put the paper into the toilet to help it last longer.”

The anniversary celebration of APDO which was on the theme “One House, One Toilet Facility” is a campaign to support this year’s World Toilet Day celebrated November 19 each year.

Mr Modok also used the occasion to urge Ghanaians to stop defecating indiscriminately in other to avoid typhoid, diarrhea and other diseases since the modern way of putting up one’s own toilet facility can be done with a half bag of cement but can last for ten (10) years if used by the (10) people in the house. He introduced to the Adeembra community a new method of putting up a toilet facility at affordable prices, which the most expensive one cost One Hundred and Eighty Cedis (GH¢180)

As part of the APDO’s anniversary celebration, the staffs from all these three (3) regions visited Adeembra a community near Donkokrom.

Mr. Modok noted that Adeembra was one of the beneficiary communities who first got support from the NGO therefore, they thought it wise to mark their 30th anniversary in the community and also take the opportunity to educate them about the effect of open defecations and also new and cheaper methods of constructing toilet facility.

APDO a non- governmental organization which has it headquarters at Donkokrom in the Afram Place North and have been in existence and leading development in its covered areas for the past 30 year.

APDO has basically supported most of the deprived communities in the Northern, Krachi East and Nchumuru district in the Volta Region and Afram place in Eastern Region by construction of mechanized bore – holes, toilet facilities, distribution of sola lighting systems including training the youths in aqua – culture.

They have also trained many young people to acquire entrepreneurship skills as well as providing jobs opportunity for the unemployed youths.
