Political scientist and long-time member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, has strongly criticized the leadership of his own party.
He says the NPP is “corrupt” and “incompetent,” and calls for the creation of a new political party, the New Patriotic Front, to replace the old one.
In an interview with Alfred Ocansey on TV3, Dr. Amoako Baah said that efforts to fix the NPP from inside would not work because those causing the problems are still in charge.
“We want to fix the party, but the people causing the issues are in control. They won’t let you remove them. It’s better to leave the old party and start a new one,” he said.
Dr. Amoako Baah also criticized the ex-President, Nana Akufo-Addo, for using his power to control the party, calling him arrogant.
“No president should have that much power over the party. If I were in charge, I would have kicked him out,” he added.
He urged disappointed NPP supporters to join the New Patriotic Front when it is formed, calling it the true party, while leaving the old one behind with its corrupt leaders.
Dr. Amoako Baah also linked the country’s poor economy to bad management. He said that the current leadership has been printing too much money, which has hurt the country’s financial health. “They printed too much money and are now hiding it. This has set us back for a long time,” he warned.
