The international human rights organization, Amnesty International Ghana has indicated to the Ghana Police Service that it is ready to provide food for the ‘Stop Galamsey Now’ protesters who were arrested couple if days ago.
Alleged inhuman treatment including starvation meted out to the protesters has drawn this reaction from Amnesty International Ghana.
In a letter dated September 25, 2024, addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Amnesty International Ghana lamented over the reported violation of human rights by the police.
Amnesty International demanded that the police furnish them with information on: the total number of individuals arrested as of September 25, 2024; the full names of all arrested persons; and the locations where each of the arrested individuals is currently held.
It further indicated that they are ready to start providing the protesters with food.
